AN ACT to establish an aggregation, storage and  distribution  of  foods
  produced by local farms to regional schools pilot program

  THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section 1. The office of general services  in  consultation  with  the
department  of  agriculture  and markets and the department of education
shall implement a one year pilot program that utilizes space  within  at
least  one  warehouse  currently  dedicated  to storing and distributing
foods supplied by the United States Department  of  Agriculture  through
the  National School Lunch Program for the purpose of aggregating, stor-
ing and distributing foods produced by local farms to  regional  schools
and other interested entities.
  S  2.  The office of general services in consultation with the depart-
ment of agriculture and markets and the department  of  education  shall
facilitate the contracting for sale of foods between participating local
producers  and  the  schools  and entities serviced by the participating
warehouses.
  S 3. At the conclusion of the pilot program,  the  office  of  general
services  in consultation with the department of agriculture and markets
and the department of education shall assess the program  and  submit  a
report to the legislature and the governor and post such report publicly
on  such  office's website. The report shall include, but not be limited
to, identification of the participating  local  producers,  schools  and
other  entities, and the levels and varieties of goods purchased through
the pilot program.
  S 4. This act shall take effect on the sixtieth  day  after  it  shall
have become a law.
