BILL NUMBER: S6459 TITLE OF BILL : An act to authorize Friends of Science East, Inc. to file an application for a real property tax exemption PURPOSE : To allow Friends of Science East, Inc to apply for a tax exemption on property in the Town of Brookhaven, Suffolk County. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS : The Friends of Science East, Inc. purchased property on Randall Road in Shoreham in the Town of Brookhaven, Suffolk County on May 2, 2013. The purchasers were qualified to apply for a tax exemption under section 420-a of the real property tax law and did so for tax years 20142015 and 2015-2016.. However, due to the timing of the closing, the purchasers could not apply for an exemption for tax year 2013-2014. This legislation would allow the assessor to accept and act on an application for that tax year. JUSTIFICATION : This bill will allow the Friends of Science, Inc to have the tax exemption to which they were entitled. LEGISLATIVE HISTORY : New bill. FISCAL IMPLICATIONS : None to the State. EFFECTIVE DATE : Immediately.
