BILL NUMBER: S6945 TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend the criminal procedure law, in relation to designating certain employees of the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center as peace officers PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF THE BILL : Designates certain public safety officers and supervisors of the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center (JKJCC) as Peace Officers. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS : Section 1. Adds a new subdivision 84 to section 2.10 of the Criminal Procedure Law designating public safety officers and supervisors of the JKJCC Public Safety Department as Peace Officers. However, they would not be authorized to carry firearms unless licensed and specifically authorized by the Center. Section 2. Provides for an immediate effective date. JUSTIFICATION : The JKJCC helps drive the economies of New York State and New York City, generating an impressive $1.5 billion in economic activity and supporting 14,000 jobs. LANZA -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Codes AN ACT to amend the criminal procedure law, in relation to designating certain employees of the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center as peace officers THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 2.10 of the criminal procedure law is amended by adding a new subdivision 84 to read as follows: 84. EMPLOYEES OF THE JACOB K. JAVITS CONVENTION CENTER PUBLIC SAFETY DEPARTMENT WORKING AS PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICERS, SUPERVISORS OR MANAGERS; PROVIDED, HOWEVER, THAT NOTHING IN THIS SUBDIVISION SHALL BE DEEMED TO AUTHORIZE SUCH OFFICER TO CARRY, POSSESS, REPAIR OR DISPOSE OF A FIREARM UNLESS THE APPROPRIATE LICENSE THEREFOR HAS BEEN ISSUED PURSUANT TO SECTION 400.00 OF THE PENAL LAW.
