 AN ACT requiring the department of labor to conduct a study to determine
   and report on the potential impact of job  automation  on  occupations
   and  employment  and  providing for the repeal of such provisions upon
   expiration thereof

   THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section 1. The commissioner of the department of labor shall engage in
 a  study  analyzing  the potential impact of job automation on the work-
 force in New York state and shall make a report on such findings.
   § 2. Such study and report carried out  pursuant  to  this  act  shall
 address the following issues:
   (a)  the  type of emerging technologies that may lead to automation in
 the workplace and the particular occupations to be affected;
   (b) the potential impact of automation on the workplace;
   (c) the effect of automation on  various  demographic  groups  in  the
 state;
   (d)  the potential loss of employment for those engaged in occupations
 that may become automated due to emerging technologies; and
   (e) any other information the commissioner deems pertinent to  include
 in said report related to this policy.
   §  3.  The commissioner shall publish such report to the governor, the
 temporary president of the senate, the  speaker  of  the  assembly,  the
 senate committees on labor and transportation and assembly committees on
 labor and transportation no later than December 31, 2019.
   §  4.  This  act shall take effect immediately and shall expire and be
 deemed repealed January 1, 2020.

 AN ACT requiring the department of labor  to  conduct  a  study  on  the
   impact  of  job  automation  on  the  workforce  in New York state and
   providing for the repeal of such provisions upon expiration thereof
 
   THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section 1. The commissioner of the department of labor shall conduct a
 comprehensive  study analyzing the impact of job automation on the work-
 force in New York state and publish a report on such findings.
   § 2. Such report shall include, but not be limited to,  the  following
 information:
   (a) the current trends of emerging technologies in New York state, and
 the types of emerging technologies that may lead to job automation;
   (b)  the particular occupations and industries to be affected, and the
 estimated number of jobs that may be lost within  such  occupations  and
 industries;
   (c)  the economic impact of job automation on different regions of the
 state and the state as a whole;
   (d) the effect of job automation on various demographic groups  within
 the state, including, but not limited to, age, race, sex, and income;
   (e) strategies to re-train affected employees for participation in the
 workforce; and
   (f)  any  additional information the commissioner of the department of
 labor deems pertinent for the purposes of this act.
   § 3. For the purposes of this act, the commissioner of the  department
 of  labor  may  conduct such study in conjunction with any other depart-
 ment, division, board, bureau, commission, agency, or  public  authority
