AN ACT to amend the public health law, in relation to automated external
  defibrillators

  THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section  1.  Paragraph  (b)  of subdivision 1 of section 3000-b of the
public health law, as added by chapter 552  of  the  laws  of  1998,  is
amended to read as follows:
  (b)  "Emergency health care provider" means (i) a physician with know-
ledge and experience in the delivery of  emergency  cardiac  care;  [or]
(ii)  A  PHYSICIAN  ASSISTANT  OR  NURSE PRACTITIONER WITH KNOWLEDGE AND
EXPERIENCE IN THE DELIVERY OF EMERGENCY CARDIAC CARE, AND WHO IS  ACTING
WITHIN  HIS OR HER SCOPE OF PRACTICE; OR (III) a hospital licensed under
article twenty-eight of this chapter  that  provides  emergency  cardiac
care.
  § 2. This act shall take effect on the one hundred eightieth day after
it  shall  have  become a law; provided that, effective immediately, the
addition, amendment, and/or repeal of any rules and  regulations  neces-
sary  to  implement the provisions of this act on its effective date are
authorized and directed to be completed  on  or  before  such  effective
date.
