NOLAN -- read once and referred to the Committee on Education AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to authorizing private special education schools to seek department approval to offer alter- native high school equivalency preparation programs THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 305 of the education law is amended by adding new subdivision 13-a to read as follows: 13-A. THE COMMISSIONER SHALL PROMULGATE REGULATIONS AUTHORIZING PRIVATE SPECIAL EDUCATION SCHOOLS TO SEEK DEPARTMENT APPROVAL TO OPER- ATE, ADMINISTER, OFFER, OR OTHERWISE PARTICIPATE IN AN ALTERNATIVE HIGH SCHOOL EQUIVALENCY PREPARATION PROGRAM. § 2. This act shall take effect on the one hundred eightieth day after it shall have become a law. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted.
