 TITLE OF BILL :  An act to amend the highway law, in relation to
designating a portion of the state highway system in the town of
Bainbridge, county of Chenango as the "Hugh A. Kearney Memorial
Bridge"

 PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL :

Designates a portion of the state highway system in the town of
Bainbridge, county of Chenango as the "Hugh A. Kearney Memorial
Bridge".

 SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS :

Section 1. Highway law amended adding a new section 342-ddd: Portion
of the state highway system to be designated as the "Hugh A. Kearney
Memorial Bridge". The bridge of the state route two hundred six
crossing the Susquehanna River in the town Bainbridge, county of
Chenango, shall be designated and known as the "Hugh A. Kearney
Memorial Bridge".

 JUSTIFICATION :

Hugh A. Kearney served as Supervisor for the Town of Bainbridge for
fourteen years. He led many efforts for the local residents and

community but notably responsible for negotiating with the State of
New York to provide for the Village of Bainbridge municipal water and
sewer service across the Susquehanna River in the Town of Bainbridge
which expanded future business and industrial growth as well. Hugh was
a man of many roles; he served as Town Councilman, Town Supervisor, a
member of the Chenango County Board of Supervisors, Bainbridge
Development Corporation, the Chenango County IDA, Vision 21 in Sidney,
NY, and the local school board which he was President for 2 years. It
was important to Hugh that he served and utilized his abilities to
assist others and make a difference for future generations to follow.

Per the request of the Town of Bainbridge, to honor the life and
service of Hugh A. Kearney and designate a portion of the state
highway system after him as the "Hugh A. Kearney Memorial Bridge".

 AN ACT to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of
   the state highway system in the town of Bainbridge, county of Chenango
   as the "Hugh A. Kearney Memorial Bridge"

   THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section  1. The highway law is amended by adding a new section 342-ddd
 to read as follows:
   § 342-DDD. PORTION OF THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM TO BE DESIGNATED AS THE
 "HUGH A. KEARNEY MEMORIAL BRIDGE". THE BRIDGE OF STATE ROUTE TWO HUNDRED
 SIX CROSSING THE SUSQUEHANNA RIVER IN THE TOWN OF BAINBRIDGE, COUNTY  OF
 CHENANGO, SHALL BE DESIGNATED AND KNOWN AS THE "HUGH A.  KEARNEY MEMORI-
 AL BRIDGE".
   §  2. The commissioner of transportation shall provide for the instal-
 lation and maintenance of adequate signing of the state  highway  system
 as  designated  pursuant  to  section one of this act; provided that, to
 avoid any confusion and to limit any possible  disruption  of  commerce,
 the  designation called for pursuant to section one of this act shall be
 one of ceremonial nature and the official name of  such  overpass  shall
 not be changed as a result of this act.
   § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
