and another portion of such bridge as the "New York State Workers
Memorial Bridge"

 PURPOSE :

Designates that portion of the Croton reservoir bridge constituting
the southbound lanes of the Taconic parkway, as the "New York State
Workers Memorial Bridge".

 SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS :

Section one amends section 343-p of the highway law to clarify that
the northbound portion of the bridge across the Croton reservoir on
the Taconic Parkway in the town of Yorktown, Westchester County, is
known as the "AMVETS Memorial Bridge".

Section two amends the highway law by adding a new section 343-pp to
designate the southbound portion of the bridge across the Croton
reservoir on the Taconic Parkway in the town of Yorktown, Westchester
County, as the "New York State Workers Memorial Bridge".

Section three states that the commissioner of transportation shall
provide for the installation and maintenance of adequate signing of
the state highway system as designated pursuant to sections one and
two of this act. However, to avoid confusion and to limit any possible
disruption of commerce, the designation called for pursuant to section
one of this act shall be of ceremonial nature and the official name of
such highways shall not be changed as a result of this act.

Section four establishes the effective date.

 JUSTIFICATION

The dedication and sacrifice made by generations of hardworking New
Yorkers continues to grow and improve the quality of life here in New
York State. This bill seeks to make a small recognition of their
service by naming the portion of the bridge across the Croton
reservoir on the southbound side of the Taconic Parkway in the town of
Yorktown, Westchester County, as the "New York State Workers Memorial
Bridge".

   THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-

   §  343-PP.  A  CERTAIN  PORTION  OF  THE CROTON RESERVOIR BRIDGE TO BE

 OF THE BRIDGE ACROSS THE CROTON RESERVOIR IN THE TOWN OF YORKTOWN, WEST-
 CHESTER COUNTY, WHICH CARRIES THE TACONIC PARKWAY  SOUTHBOUND  SHALL  BE
 DESIGNATED AND KNOWN AS THE "NEW YORK STATE WORKERS MEMORIAL BRIDGE".
   §  3. The commissioner of transportation shall provide for the instal-
 lation and maintenance of adequate signing of the state  highway  system
 as designated pursuant to sections one and two of this act.  However, to
 avoid  confusion  and  to limit any possible disruption of commerce, the
 designation called for pursuant to section one of this act shall  be  of
 ceremonial  nature  and  the official name of such highways shall not be
 changed as a result of this act.
   § 4. This act shall take effect immediately.
