BILL NUMBER: S6401 TITLE OF BILL : An act authorizing the city of Schenectady to alienate certain parcels of land used as parkland and to acquire other parcels of land to replace such parkland PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL : To ensure the continued use and preservation of park space in the City of Schenectady, Schenectady County. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS : Section one provides for expansion of the city's park expansion in order to provide for the sale of Quackenbush Park for the construction of a new Boys and Girls Club building. The building will be situated between two underserved neighborhoods, Mont Pleasant and Hamilton Hill. This area is located near two public schools. JUSTIFICATION : The city of Schenectady has requested this legislation. This bill would provide for the acquisition and dedication of additional lands by adding parkland from the expansion of Gateway Plaza. In exchange,

TEDISCO -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Local Government AN ACT authorizing the city of Schenectady to alienate certain parcels of land used as parkland and to acquire other parcels of land to replace such parkland THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Subject to the provisions of this act, the city of Schenec- tady, acting by and through its governing body, is hereby authorized to discontinue as parklands and alienate the lands more particularly described in section three of this act, and to sell and convey such parklands at fair market value and upon such other terms and conditions as determined by the governing body of the city of Schenectady to the Boys & Girls Club for the purpose of constructing a new Boys & Girls Club facility at Quackenbush Park. § 2. The authorization contained in section one of this act shall take effect only upon the condition that the city of Schenectady shall acquire and dedicate the lands described in section three of this act as additional parklands of the county. § 3. The lands authorized by section one of this act to be discontin- ued as parklands and conveyed to the Boys & Girls Club consists of 1.35 acres and are described as follows: All that certain tract, piece, or parcel of land situate, lying and being in the City of Schenectady, County of Schenectady and State of New York and being more particularly bounded and described as follows: Beginning at a point on the division line of lands herein described as Lot 1 on the south and lands now or formerly of Schenectady City School District as described in Liber 279 of deeds at page 209 on the north, said point being the northeast corner of Lot 2; thence running along said division line North 30°59'00" East, 150.10 feet to a point with the lands herein described as Lot 1 on the south, lands now or formerly of EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted.
