BILL NUMBER: S6551 TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend the education law, in relation to the amount of the supplemental basic tuition for charter schools PURPOSE : This legislation would require the annual apportionment that is made available to school districts outside of the city of New York to reimburse school districts for certain charter school tuition payments be made available to such districts in the current school year. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS : Sections 1 and 2 amend section 2856 of the education law to state that school districts, outside of the city of New York, shall be eligible for an annual apportionment equal to the amount of the supplemental basic tuition for the charter school in the current school year. Section 3 sets the effective date JUSTIFICATION : Under current law, the state reimburses, via an annual apportionment, some of a district's expenses related to charter school tuition payments.
