BILL NUMBER: S7334 SPONSOR: FUNKE TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the economic development law, in relation to the administration of a senior tourism attraction program PURPOSE: To create a "New York Senior Tourism Attraction" program SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section one adds Article 5-F to the economic development law. Within Article 5-F section 181-f defines senior and senior tourism attraction. Section 181-g requires the Commissioner of Economic Development in conjunction with all relevant departments, agencies, and tourism promotion agencies, and the director of SOFA to implement a senior tour- ism attractions program. The program will target various state tourism regions and identify specific attractions to be included in the program. Information must be publically available and posted on various websites.

FUNKE -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Rules AN ACT to amend the economic development law, in relation to the admin- istration of a senior tourism attraction program THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Article 5-F of the economic development law, as added by a chapter of the laws of 2017, amending the economic development law relating to developing a senior tourism program, as proposed in legisla- tive bills numbers S.6694 and A.8161-A, is amended to read as follows: ARTICLE 5-F SENIOR TOURISM ATTRACTIONS PROGRAM Section 181-f. Definitions. 181-g. Senior tourism ATTRACTIONS program. § 181-f. Definitions. For the purposes of this article the following terms shall have the following meanings: 1. "Senior" shall mean persons [aged sixty-five and older] OF AT LEAST SIXTY YEARS OR OLDER; 2. "Senior [friendly] TOURISM attraction" shall mean a tourism attraction AS IDENTIFIED BY A PARTICIPATORY ORGANIZATION that [opti- mizes] SPECIFIES opportunities for seniors [in order to enhance their quality of life]. § 181-g. Senior tourism ATTRACTIONS program. 1. The commissioner, in conjunction with [the commissioner of parks, recreation and historic preservation,] ALL RELEVANT DEPARTMENTS AND AGENCIES, TOURISM PROMOTION AGENCIES, and the director of the office for the aging and in consulta- tion with applicable local government officials, shall develop and implement a senior tourism ATTRACTIONS program. Such program shall [identify senior-friendly tourism] INCLUDE THE OPPORTUNITY TO INCORPO- RATE INFORMATION FOR VISITORS AND SENIOR attractions in each of the state's [tourism] VACATION regions. In identifying specific [tourism] attractions to be included in the program, consideration shall be given to attractions that can be linked to surrounding artistic, cultural, EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted.
