BILL NUMBER: S8705 SPONSOR: KENNEDY TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the public health law, in relation to emergency medical technician certification requirements PURPOSE: This bill permits an individual under the age of 18 to be certified as an EMT if they are a member of the armed forces. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1 amends Section 3002 of the public health law to permit indi- viduals under the age of eighteen to be certified as an emergency medical technician, if said individual is a member of the armed forces of the United State. Section 2 is the enacting clause.

KENNEDY -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Health AN ACT to amend the public health law, in relation to emergency medical technician certification requirements THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 3002 of the public health law is amended by adding a new subdivision 2-c to read as follows: 2-C. NOTWITHSTANDING ANY LAW, RULE OR REGULATION, THE STATE COUNCIL SHALL PERMIT AN INDIVIDUAL WHO IS UNDER THE AGE OF EIGHTEEN TO BE CERTI- FIED AS AN EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN IF SUCH INDIVIDUAL IS A MEMBER OF THE ARMED FORCES OF THE UNITED STATES. § 2. This act shall take effect immediately. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted. LBD15857-01-8
