BILL NUMBER: S8894 SPONSOR: LITTLE TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the executive law, in relation to the accreditation of persons appointed as Indian police officers PURPOSE: The purpose of this legislation is to include persons appointed as Indi- an police officers within the definition of the term "law enforcement agency" for the purposes of the law enforcement accreditation council. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1 amends paragraph (a) of subdivision 9 of section 846-h of the executive law, as amended by chapter 625 of the laws of 2005 to include Indian police officers in the definition of a "law enforcement agency" for purposes of that section. The effect of the amendment is to allow Indian police officers to participate in the accreditation process

LITTLE -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Finance AN ACT to amend the executive law, in relation to the accreditation of persons appointed as Indian police officers THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Paragraph (a) of subdivision 9 of section 846-h of the executive law, as amended by chapter 625 of the laws of 2005, is amended to read as follows: (a) The term "law enforcement agency" shall mean any agency or depart- ment of any municipality, any police district, or any agency, depart- ment, commission, authority or public benefit corporation of the state of New York employing a police officer or police officers as that term is defined in paragraphs (a), (b), (c), (d), (e), (f), (j), (k), (l), (o), (p), [and] (s), AND (U) of subdivision thirty-four of section 1.20 of the criminal procedure law. § 2. This act shall take effect immediately. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted. LBD16157-01-8
