Senate Resolution No. 2182

COMMENDING Stanley J. Szretter posthumously upon
the occasion of his designation as recipient of a
Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an
individual by the New York State Senate

WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York,
who have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this
country's freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace
in peacetime, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Stanley J.
Szretter posthumously upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the
New York State Senate; and

WHEREAS, The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established by
Resolution and is awarded to individuals who have merited special
commendation for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on behalf of
their fellow New Yorkers; and

WHEREAS, Stanley J. Szretter was born on August 28, 1932, in
Saxonville, Massachusetts, to John and Nellie Szretter, and was a
graduate of Framingham High School; and

WHEREAS, On July 18, 1950, Stanley J. Szretter began his service to
his country as an Aircraft Mechanic with the 14th Fighter-Interceptor
Squadron; and

WHEREAS, For his courageous service during the Korean War, Stanley
J. Szretter was awarded the Korean Service Medal with 1 Bronze Star,
The National Defense Service Medal, and the United Nations Service
Medal; and

WHEREAS, Stanley J. Szretter separated on July 17, 1954, with the
esteemed rank of Staff Sergeant; he went on to serve in the Iowa Air
National Guard until July 18, 1955, where he continued his work as an
Aircraft Mechanic; and

WHEREAS, Upon the completion of his military service, Stanley J.
Szretter married his wife, Kathryn, and together they had one daughter,
Constance; and

WHEREAS, Stanley J. Szretter retired from Sperry Univac Corp. of
Boston where he worked as a Computer Field Engineer for more than 30
years; since 2003, he was a resident of Clifton Park, New York; and

WHEREAS, Active in his community, Stanley J. Szretter was a longtime
member of the Maspenock Rod and Gun Club in Milford, Massachusetts, and
was a lifetime member of the NRA; he was also an avid hunter and enjoyed
fishing; and

WHEREAS, Stanley J. Szretter died on May 23, 2019, at the age of 86;
and


WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget the courage
with which these men and women served their country, and must recognize
that no greater debt is owed than that owed to those who gave their
lives for their beloved Nation and to those who continue to be missing
in action; and

WHEREAS, Having exhibited his patriotism both at home and abroad,
Stanley J. Szretter demonstrated his love for his country and merits
forevermore the highest respect of his State and Nation; and

WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended
and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and
for their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Stanley J. Szretter posthumously upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed
upon an individual by the New York State Senate; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Stanley J. Szretter.
