COMMEMORATING the 150th Anniversary of the Good
Shepherd Communities on June 19, 2020

WHEREAS, The State of New York takes great pride in acknowledging
outstanding organizations which distinguish themselves in serving the
community and its residents, and which warrant special recognition; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend those
illustrious organizations of the State of New York whose focus and
intent have made a substantial impact on the quality of life in their
communities; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the Good Shepherd Communities, to
be celebrated at a Gala on Friday, June 19, 2020, at the Doubletree
Hotel, Binghamton, New York; and

WHEREAS, In January of 1870, the parishioner of Christ Episcopal
Church created a home to care for the sick and infirmed; the House of
the Good Shepherd became Binghamton's first hospital and continued in
that role until City Hospital opened in 1888; it was at that time, Good
Shepherd changed its charter to provide long term care; and

WHEREAS, Over its distinguished 150 year history, the Good Shepherd
Communities has demonstrated continuous service to the residents and
populations which it serves; this vital non-profit corporation provides
management and administrative services to campuses located in both
Broome and Chenango County; and

WHEREAS, The Good Shepherd Communities provides care to thousands of
individuals who have successfully entered the various facilities, from
Fairview Home, Village at Endwell, and Chase Memorial Nursing Home and
Rehabilitation; these facilities offer an array of services including,
independent living, short-term rehabilitation, therapy services, skilled
nursing, and wound care; and

WHEREAS, The success of the Good Shepherd Communities is in direct
correlation to the efforts of its staff and volunteers, whose
involvement is, and always has been, characterized by an impressive
commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of
excellence in all endeavors on behalf of the organization and the
community it serves; and

WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents an opportunity for this
Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to the Good Shepherd
Communities; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when
associations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the Good Shepherd Communities upon the occasion of
celebrating its 150th Anniversary; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Good Shepherd Communities.
