   printed to be committed to the Committee on Cities
 
 AN ACT to amend the administrative code of the  city  of  New  York,  in
   relation to signage in school speed zones
 
   THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section 1. Paragraph 1 of subdivision  e  of  section  19-177  of  the
 administrative  code  of  the  city  of  New York, as added by local law
 number 24 of the city of New York for the year 2014, is amended to  read
 as follows:
   (1)  Except  as  provided  in  paragraph  two of this subdivision, the
 commissioner shall establish speed limits of not less than  fifteen  nor
 more  than twenty miles per hour at fifty school locations annually, for
 a distance not to exceed one thousand  three  hundred  twenty  feet,  on
 highways passing any school building, entrance or exit of a school abut-
 ting  on  the  highway.  FOR  SCHOOL YEARS BEGINNING ON AND AFTER AUGUST
 FIRST, TWO THOUSAND TWENTY, TWENTY PERCENT OF THE SCHOOL LOCATIONS  THAT
 HAVE  BEEN  SELECTED  PURSUANT  TO  THIS SUBDIVISION SHALL HAVE OFFICIAL
 SIGNS POSTED THAT INCLUDE THE REDUCED SPEED LIMIT, FLASHING BEACONS, AND
 A NOTICE THAT THE REDUCED SPEED LIMIT IS IN EFFECT WHEN SUCH BEACONS ARE
 FLASHING. THE NUMBER OF SCHOOL LOCATIONS AT WHICH SUCH  SIGNS  SHALL  BE
 POSTED  SHALL  INCREASE BY TWENTY PERCENT EACH YEAR. SUCH SIGNS SHALL BE
 POSTED NO LATER THAN THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL FOR SUCH YEAR. For purposes
 of this subdivision, the term "school" shall have the same meaning as in
 section 19-189 of this title.
   § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
