BILL NUMBER: S4588 SPONSOR: MAYER TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the highway law, in relation to desig- nating portion of the state highway system as "The NYPD Det. TSgt. Joseph G. Lemm Memorial Bridge" PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: This bill honors and memorializes, by naming a bridge near his home in West Harrison after him, NYPD Det./TSgt. Joseph G. Lemm, who died serv- ing his country in Afghanistan. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1 of this bill designates a bridge on Interstate 287 as "The NYPD Det./TSgt. Joseph G. Lemm Memorial Bridge". Section 2 sets the effective date.

TSgt. Joseph G. Lemm Memo- rial Bridge" THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The highway law is amended by adding a new section 344-i to read as follows: § 344-I. PORTION OF STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM TO BE DESIGNATED AS "THE NYPD DET. TSGT. JOSEPH G. LEMM MEMORIAL BRIDGE". THE BRIDGE CROSSING OVER INTERSTATE ROUTE TWO HUNDRED EIGHTY-SEVEN, INTERSECTING WITH WESTCHESTER AVENUE IN THE TOWN OF HARRISON, COUNTY OF WESTCHESTER, CURRENTLY KNOWN AS THE WHITE PLAINS AVENUE BRIDGE, SHALL BE DESIGNATED AND KNOWN AS "THE NYPD DET. TSGT. JOSEPH G. LEMM MEMORIAL BRIDGE". § 2. This act shall take effect immediately. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted. LBD07870-03-9

However, to avoid confusion and to limit any possible disruption of commerce, the desig- nation called for pursuant to section one of this act shall be one of ceremonial nature and the official name of such bridge shall not be changed as a result of this act. § 3.
