BILL NUMBER: S6388 SPONSOR: PERSAUD TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend chapter 81 of the laws of 1995, amend- ing the vehicle and traffic law and other laws relating to the enforce- ment of support through the suspension of driving privileges, in relation to the effectiveness thereof PURPOSE OF THE BILL: This bill would extend, for two years, the expiration of the driver license suspension process, one of the State's most effective tools to enforce child support obligations. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1 of the bill would amend subdivision 19 of § 246 of Chapter 81 of the Laws of 1995 to extend the administrative driver license suspen- sion process from August 31, 2019 to August 31, 2021. PERSAUD -- (at request of the Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance) -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Rules AN ACT to amend chapter 81 of the laws of 1995, amending the vehicle and traffic law and other laws relating to the enforcement of support through the suspension of driving privileges, in relation to the effectiveness thereof THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Subdivision 19 of section 246 of chapter 81 of the laws of 1995, amending the vehicle and traffic law and other laws relating to the enforcement of support through the suspension of driving privileges, as amended by chapter 138 of the laws of 2017, is amended to read as follows: 19. Sections two hundred one, two hundred eight, two hundred eleven, two hundred thirteen, two hundred fifteen and two hundred sixteen of this act shall expire and be deemed repealed on August 31, [2019] 2021. § 2. This act shall take effect immediately; provided, however, that if this act shall have become a law on or after August 31, 2019 this act shall take effect immediately and shall be deemed to have been in full force and effect on and after August 31, 2019.
