Automatically extends enrollment of individuals in the rent increase exemption program for low income elderly persons and persons with disabilities pursuant to section 467-b or 467-c of the real property tax law, the senior citizen homeowners' exemption program pursuant to section 467 of the real property tax law or the disabled homeowners' exemption program pursuant to section 459-c of the real property tax law until January 1, 2021 in response to novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

BILL NUMBER: S8401 SPONSOR: LIU TITLE OF BILL: An act to automatically extend the enrollment of individuals in certain programs in response to novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) PURPOSE: To continue providing support for low7income seniors and disabled indi- viduals receiving rent increase exemptions and homeowner exemptions f. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1 establishes that all individuals enrolled in rent increase exemption programs and homeowner exemption programs for low-income seniors and disabled individuals are allowed to stay enrolled in those programs from the effective date to January 1St, 2021. Section 2 establishes the effective date.

LIU -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Local Government AN ACT to automatically extend the enrollment of individuals in certain programs in response to novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Notwithstanding any other law to the contrary, any individ- ual enrolled in the rent increase exemption program for low income elderly persons and persons with disabilities pursuant to section 467-b or 467-c of the real property tax law, the senior citizen homeowners' exemption program pursuant to section 467 of the real property tax law or the disabled homeowners' exemption program pursuant to section 459-c of the real property tax law as of the effective date of this act shall remain enrolled in such program until January 1, 2021. § 2. This act shall take effect immediately. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted. LBD16154-01-0

LIU, RIVERA -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Local Government -- committee discharged, bill amended, ordered reprinted as amended and recommitted to said committee AN ACT to automatically extend the enrollment of individuals in certain programs in response to novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Notwithstanding any other law to the contrary, any individ- ual enrolled in the rent increase exemption program for low income elderly persons and persons with disabilities pursuant to section 467-b or 467-c of the real property tax law, the senior citizen homeowners' exemption program pursuant to section 467 of the real property tax law or the disabled homeowners' exemption program pursuant to section 459-c of the real property tax law as of the effective date of this act and who does not reenroll in such program due to concerns related to the state disaster emergency declared pursuant to executive order two hundred two of two thousand twenty, as amended, shall remain enrolled in such program until January 1, 2021 or until their current enrollment is set to expire, whichever is later. § 2.
