BILL NUMBER: S8755 SPONSOR: SERINO TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of the state highway system as the "Firefighter Tim Gunther Memorial High- way" PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: To honor the life and service of fallen firefighter, Tim Gunther, by designating a portion of Route, 55 in Poughkeepsie in his memory. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: Section 1: Amends the highway law to designate the portion of Route 55 in the city of Poughkeepsie as "Firefighter Tim Gunther Memorial High- way." SERINO -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Rules AN ACT to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of the state highway system as the "Firefighter Tim Gunther Memorial Highway" THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The highway law is amended by adding a new section 344-1 to read as follows: § 344-1. PORTION OF THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM TO BE DESIGNATED AS THE "FIREFIGHTER TIM GUNTHER MEMORIAL HIGHWAY". ALL THAT PORTION OF THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM CONSTITUTING STATE ROUTE FIFTY-FIVE IN THE CITY OF POUGHKEEPSIE, COUNTY OF DUTCHESS, SHALL BE DESIGNATED AND KNOWN AS THE "FIREFIGHTER TIM GUNTHER MEMORIAL HIGHWAY". § 2. The commissioner of transportation shall provide for the instal- lation and maintenance of adequate signing of the state highway system as designated pursuant to section one of this act. However, to avoid confusion and to limit any possible disruption of commerce, the desig- nation called for pursuant to section one of this act shall be one of ceremonial nature and the official name of such highway shall not be changed as a result of this act. § 3.
