HONORING Stuart Rabinowitz upon the occasion of
his designation for special recognition after 20
years of distinguished service as President and 50
years of exceptional service to Hofstra University

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals in the teaching profession who distinguish
themselves in their dedication and commitment to their students; and

WHEREAS, New York State's commitment to education is unparalleled;
its history and stature are secured by the superlative caliber of its
educational professionals and the students they inspire; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Stuart Rabinowitz upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition after 20 years of distinguished service as President and 50
years of exceptional service to Hofstra University to be celebrated at
its Annual Gala on Thursday, July 15, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Stuart Rabinowitz has served as the eighth president of
Hofstra University since 2001; a member of the faculty of the Hofstra
University Maurice A. Deane School of Law since 1972, he served as dean
from 1989 through 2001; and

WHEREAS, Under his leadership, Hofstra University has created
several new schools, including the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of
Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, the Hofstra/Northwell School of Nursing
and Physician Assistant Studies, the Fred DeMatteis School of
Engineering and Applied Science, the Peter S. Kalikow School of
Government, Public Policy and International Affairs, and the School of
Health Professions and Human Services; and

WHEREAS, President Stuart Rabinowitz also founded the University's
National Center for Suburban Studies and the Institute of Innovation &
Entrepreneurship; and

WHEREAS, Hofstra is the only university in the United States to host
three consecutive presidential debates (2008, 2012, 2016); President
Stuart Rabinowitz serves on the board of directors of the LIA and as
co-vice chair of the Long Island Regional Economic Development Council;
and

WHEREAS, The recipient of numerous awards and accolades, President
Stuart Rabinowitz has received the Martin Luther King Living the Dream
Award, EOC; Distinguished Service in the Cause of Justice, Legal Aid
Society; UJA Federation Leadership Award; the Bar Association of Nassau
County Proclamation for Outstanding Service to the legal profession and
the community; the Conference of Jewish Organizations of Nassau County's
Community Service Award; the Alumni Association of the City College of
New York's 2005 Townsend Harris Medal; and Networking magazine's David
Award; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, he received the Chief Executive Leadership
Award from CASE, District II, and in 2020 was named to City and State of
New York's Higher Education Power 50 and Long Island Power 100 lists;
Claflin University presented President Stuart Rabinowitz with the degree
Doctor of Laws, honoris causa; and

WHEREAS, President Stuart Rabinowitz received a juris doctor, magna
cum laude, from Columbia University School of Law; and

WHEREAS, As a knowledgeable and highly skilled President, Stuart
Rabinowitz has improved the quality of education at Hofstra University
by leading and supporting staff with enthusiasm, cultivating a positive
and stimulating school environment for his students, and creating a
greater sense of community; and

WHEREAS, Educators like President Stuart Rabinowitz provide a
tremendous service to the future of our State and Nation, inspiring
generations of young people in their educational journeys and ensuring
their success in their future years; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Stuart Rabinowitz upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition after 20 years of distinguished service as President and 50
years of exceptional service to Hofstra University; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to President Stuart Rabinowitz.
