CONGRATULATING Firefighter Robert D. Cook upon the
occasion of his retirement after 28 years of
distinguished service to the Rome Fire Department

WHEREAS, Citizens across our State and Nation are inspired by and
indebted to our noble firefighters who exhibit courage and bravery every
day in the course of their duties; and

WHEREAS, Firefighters exemplify the power of human compassion and
the strength of the American spirit through actions of the most heroic
magnitude; their sacrifices and their selfless dedication merit tribute
and recognition by all citizens of this great country; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate
Firefighter Robert D. Cook upon the occasion of his retirement after 28
years of distinguished service to the Rome Fire Department; he
officially retired on January 8, 2022; and

WHEREAS, Robert D. Cook, affectionately known as Bob, has
consistently demonstrated a level of commitment, dedication, integrity
and professionalism which truly exemplifies excellence in fire and
rescue service; and

WHEREAS, Robert D. Cook began his illustrious firefighting career
with the City of Rome Fire Department on March 5, 1994, during which
time he worked at both the Laurel Street and Central Stations; and

WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to his
community, in addition to his service as a firefighter, Robert D. Cook
was an EMT and part of the Haz Mat team; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his career, which spanned nearly three decades,
Robert D. Cook put his life on the line in an effort to protect the
safety of others, always working diligently to protect his community and
its residents from fire and other dangers; and

WHEREAS, In his official acts, Robert D. Cook was governed by a keen
sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human problems; during
his tenure with the Rome Fire Department, he truly earned the
admiration, esteem and affection of his colleagues; and

WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Deanna, and his two
children, Dylan and Stephanie, all of whom feel privileged to be a part
of his life and rejoice in his many achievements; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body cannot express sufficient gratitude
to those devoted individuals who recognize that the preservation of life
and property is a sacred responsibility and who make that responsibility
their own by serving as firefighters; and

WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help
others and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with
family and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in need;

Robert D. Cook is such a firefighter; throughout his years of devoted
service, this extraordinary man heroically performed, above and beyond
the call of duty, those responsibilities which define the task of fire
protection; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Firefighter Robert D. Cook upon the occasion of his
retirement after 28 years of distinguished service to the Rome Fire
Department, recognizing the significant, positive impact he has had on
the City of Rome and the safety of its residents; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Firefighter Robert D. Cook.
