HONORING Carm Basile upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Third Age
Achievement Award by Lifepath on April 29, 2022

WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of
certain extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their
valued contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Carm Basile
upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Third Age
Achievement Award by Lifepath, to be celebrated at its 26th Annual
Awards Ceremony on Friday, April 29, 2022, at Wolferts Roost Country
Club, Albany, New York; and

WHEREAS, Lifepath is dedicated to keeping older neighbors and
friends healthy and safe by providing effective programs and support to
help them stay connected to their communities; and

WHEREAS, Each year, this auspicious event recognizes the
contributions area residents and professionals have made in their
communities during the Third Age of their lives (after turning 60
years-old); Carm Basile is truly deserving of this prestigious award;
and

WHEREAS, Born and raised in Springfield, Massachusetts, Carm Basile
earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Urban Studies from Worcester State
College; and

WHEREAS, In 1981, Carm Basile began his long and distinguished
career, spanning over four decades, with the Capital District
Transportation Authority (CDTA); after taking over the helm as CEO in
2009, he became responsible for the company's transit development, daily
operations, and finances; and

WHEREAS, Carm Basile works with the CDTA Board of Directors to
develop innovative strategies high-quality services, programs and
facilities for the people of the Capital Region, and has led the
transformation of the company into a community-based provider of
mobility, increasing ridership, visibility and brand awareness; and

WHEREAS, Under the luminous leadership of Carm Basile, CDTA was
named the Best Mid-Size Transit System in North America in October of
2017, and the organization has grown its Universal Access agreements
with area colleges and businesses, increased mobility options for the
Capital Region by adding on-demand service and a regional bike-share
program that features more than 500 bikes at 85 stations, and is
planning to launch electric scooters and a car share program which will
feature 10 electric cars; and

WHEREAS, In addition to his valuable work with CDTA, Carm Basile
serves on numerous boards and civic organizations including the Capital

Region Chamber, the United Way of the Greater Capital Region and
Christian Brothers Academy; and

WHEREAS, For his steadfast and unremitting commitment to his
profession and community, Carm Basile was named the 2019 Strategist of
the Year by the Albany Business Review; and

WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Sheila, and their
two sons, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of his life and
rejoice in his achievements; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Carm Basile upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the 2022 Third Age Achievement Award by Lifepath; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Carm Basile.
