MOURNING the death of John L. Habib, distinguished
citizen and devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and this
great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, John L. Habib of Croton-on Hudson, New York, was a member
of the Croton-on Hudson Board of Trustees; and

WHEREAS, John L. Habib distinguished himself in his profession and
by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of
his community; and

WHEREAS, John L. Habib was a citizen of the world but always called
Croton home; after decades of accomplishment in the United States and
overseas, he returned to Croton to help make his hometown the best
Village it could be; and

WHEREAS, His unique blend of energy, humor and optimism guided his
efforts for Croton; he cherished his memories of the Village as a young
boy but knew communities must grow and evolve to meet the challenges of
today; and

WHEREAS, John L. Habib's commitment to excellence, and his spirit of
humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including
charitable and civic endeavors; and

WHEREAS, John L. Habib worked hard to create the Croton Business
Council, which is making an important difference for the Village; its
work will be a lasting tribute to John's vision and dedication; and

WHEREAS, Trustee John L. Habib was never shy about questioning
conventional wisdom or wondering how the Board of Trustees could do
better; the Board members will remember his insistence that they strive
for excellence as they continue the work he valued so much; and

WHEREAS, It was always a great adventure to walk the streets of
Croton with John L. Habib, as he pointed out memories of days gone by,
described new ideas, or said hello to old and new friends; he loved
Croton, and Croton clearly returned the affection; and

WHEREAS, John L. Habib is survived by his wife, Tanya Chuck Habib;
and

WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, John L. Habib leaves behind a legacy which will long endure
the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all he
served and befriended; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of John L. Habib, and to express its deepest condolences
to his family; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of John L. Habib.
