MOURNING the death of Edward T. Kiluk,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of his
community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and this
great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Edward T. Kiluk of Owego, New York, died on Sunday, April
4, 2021, at the age of 60, following a well-fought battle with cancer;
and

WHEREAS, Edward T. Kiluk, affectionately known to family and friends
as Eddie, graduated from Seton Catholic Central High School and Broome
Community College; and

WHEREAS, Edward T. Kiluk distinguished himself in his profession and
by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of
his community; and

WHEREAS, He was a Johnson City Police Officer and became a New York
State Trooper where he served for nearly 30 years until his retirement
in 2012; and

WHEREAS, Following the terrorist attacks on 9/11, Trooper Edward T.
Kiluk was assigned to the ground zero site and spent several weeks
working there; this heroic act ultimately led to his cancer diagnosis in
2019; and

WHEREAS, Edward T. Kiluk was a one-of-a-kind human being and truly
loved by all; he often displayed a tough exterior, but he had a gentle
heart; he was boisterous and full of humor and made friends wherever he
went; and

WHEREAS, A man about the town, there were very few establishments in
the greater Binghamton area where he was not known; he was a member of
the Endicott Sons of Italy; and

WHEREAS, Edward T. Kiluk's commitment to excellence, and his spirit
of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including
charitable and civic endeavors; and

WHEREAS, Edward T. Kiluk was incredibly generous and volunteered his
time to help those in the community, whether it be through organized
charity events, food deliveries, or simply helping family, friends, and
neighbors; few people knew the extent of his efforts, as he was never
one to boast; and

WHEREAS, This extraordinary man loved sports and was a loyal fan of
the New York Yankees and the LA Raiders, although you might not know it
based on how much he complained about them; in his later years, he
enjoyed playing golf; and


WHEREAS, Edward T. Kiluk often repeated the following phrase, which
he said was a description of his dad, but was actually an incredibly
accurate depiction of his own life: "He ate what he wanted, he drank
what he wanted, and he was always kind to dogs and old people."; and

WHEREAS, Edward T. Kiluk is survived by his parents, Edward and
Florence Kiluk; his significant other, Jennifer Morris Hanford; five
younger siblings, Kathy Phillips, Michael Kiluk, Debra Westgate,
Jennifer Giammarino, and Brian Kiluk; and his in-laws, Robert Phillips,
Jennifer Kiluk, Derek Westgate, Sabrina Kiluk, Dana Wells; as well as
many nieces and nephews; and

WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Edward T. Kiluk leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; he will be truly missed by many; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Edward T. Kiluk, and to express its deepest
condolences to his family; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Edward T. Kiluk.
