LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Carter Rubin
of Shoreham, New York, upon the occasion of winning
season 19 of "The Voice"

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to call attention
to those young people within our midst whose nationally acclaimed
accomplishments bring pride to their families, their communities, and to
the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Carter Rubin of Shoreham, New York, upon the occasion of
winning season 19 of "The Voice" on Tuesday, December 15, 2020; and

WHEREAS, Carter Rubin was mentored by Gwen Stefani, a skilled
singer/songwriter who guided and inspired young Carter to reach his full
potential and pursue his promising musical career; and

WHEREAS, Carter Rubin, a 15-year-old singer with a stage presence
beyond his years, captured the title after a life-changing adventure
which began nearly 10 months earlier during an audition in Boston,
Massachusetts; from there, he traveled to California and performed Lewis
Capaldi's "Before You Go" in front of coaches Kelly Clarkson, John
Legend, Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani, whom he chose as his coach; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his journey, which included the Battle Rounds,
Knockouts, and live shows, Carter Rubin's incredible voice and endearing
personality won him numerous fans and his popularity increased with each
performance; and

WHEREAS, Viewers based their final votes on Monday, December 14,
2020's performances when Rubin Carter sang the Miley Cyrus song "The
Climb," followed by his first original song, "Up From Here"; and

WHEREAS, With this monumental win, Carter Rubin earned a recording
contract, all before he finishes his sophomore year at Shoreham-Wading
River High School; and

WHEREAS, Upon his return to his hometown, his friends, neighbors and
fans celebrated his triumph with a car parade which stretched for miles
past his house; Carter Rubin, his parents, David and Alonna, and older
brother, Jack, beamed with pride as well-wishers quickly jumped out of
their vehicles to take pictures with their star while his signature
song, "Rainbow Connection" playing in the background; and

WHEREAS, Carter Rubin grew up in a musical family and credits his
grandfather, a guitarist and backup vocalist for the Jay and the
Americans, with inspiring him to pursue a singing career; prior to
competing on "The Voice", he showcased his talents in various school
musicals and community events; and

WHEREAS, Carter Rubin also loves to sing and play music with his
autistic brother Jack at various events sponsored by his family's autism

foundation which raises awareness and money to send children and
families living with this disorder to amusement parks for a day of fun;
and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is pleased to have this opportunity
to recognize the amazing and unique talent of Carter Rubin who has
brought enduring pride to his family, his fans, the State of New York,
and the Nation as a whole, fully confident of his response to a
promising future and appreciative of the model he represents for all
those aspiring to be contestants on "The Voice"; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Carter Rubin of Shoreham, New York, upon the occasion of
winning season 19 of "The Voice"; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Carter Rubin.
