CONGRATULATING Superintendent Anthony Day upon the
occasion of his retirement after 34 years of
dedicated service as a teacher, coach, and
administrator throughout Western New York

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge the
significant milestones in the distinguished careers of those outstanding
educational leaders, whose dedication and achievements have been
instrumental in developing character and academic excellence in the
young people of New York State; and

WHEREAS, New York State's commitment to education is unparalleled;
its history and stature are secured by the superlative caliber of its
educational professionals and the students they inspire; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate
Superintendent Anthony Day upon the occasion of his retirement after
more than 34 years of dedicated service as a teacher, coach, and
administrator throughout Western New York, 21 years at Sweet Home
Central School District serving all two decades in Administrative
positions; and

WHEREAS, The future success of our State and Nation is dependent
upon individuals such as Anthony Day, who have dedicated their lives as
educators, nurturing our most precious resource, our youth; and

WHEREAS, Since the late 1980s, Anthony Day played a pivotal role in
the education of countless students in the communities of Amherst and
Tonawanda, New York; and

WHEREAS, Anthony Day began his illustrious career in education as a
social studies teacher at Niagara Wheatfield High School from 1988 until
1996, when he became the Assistant Principal of Sweet Home High School;
and

WHEREAS, In 1998, Anthony Day was appointed as Principal of Edward
Town Middle School; he went on to become Assistant Superintendent in
2002, before beginning his role as Superintendent of Sweet Home Schools
in July of 2010, the esteemed position from which he will retire; and

WHEREAS, In this capacity, Anthony Day has improved the quality of
education at Sweet Home Central School District by leading and
supporting staff with enthusiasm, cultivating a positive and stimulating
school environment for his students, and creating a greater sense of
community; and

WHEREAS, As a regional leader in placing technology into his
students' hands, he instituted literacy workshops as a new model for
elementary school literacy education; he was also instrumental in
bringing best practices to teachers with in-house coaching support and
in the opening of Ready Academy to offer extra support for at risk
students; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Anthony Day has demonstrated a true
passion for making a difference in the lives of children, inspiring them
to expand their horizons, and be successful in the classroom; and

WHEREAS, The Erie County community is indeed fortunate and blessed
to have had such a dedicated and respected educational leader; his
wisdom and contributions reached into every classroom, truly making a
difference in the lives of those lucky enough to have worked with him;
and

WHEREAS, A significant contributor to education in New York State,
Anthony Day has continually demonstrated an impressive dedication, an
unparalleled devotion and an unremitting enthusiasm for the quality of
the educational programs and opportunities offered at the Sweet Home
Central School District for the benefit of its faculty and students, as
well as for the entire community; and

WHEREAS, In completing his service as Superintendent, Anthony Day
leaves behind more than mere bricks and mortar; he leaves behind a
legacy to the students of the Sweet Home Central School District and to
the residents of the community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Superintendent Anthony Day upon the occasion of his
retirement, and to wish him continued success in all his future
endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Superintendent Anthony Day.
