CONGRATULATING Police Commissioner Joseph Schaller
upon the occasion of his retirement after 47 years
of distinguished service to the New Rochelle Police
Department

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished officers who would devote themselves to public
service, demonstrating great courage and diligence in providing for the
care and welfare of the citizens of their communities and this great
Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication,
command the respect and admiration of their community for their
exemplary contributions and service on behalf of others; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate
Police Commissioner Joseph Schaller upon the occasion of his retirement
after 47 years of distinguished service to the New Rochelle Police
Department; and

WHEREAS, The longest-tenured member in the history of one of
Westchester's largest police departments, Police Commissioner Joseph
Schaller will officially step down after nearly five decades on the
force on Wednesday, June 30, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Under the able leadership of Police Commissioner Joseph
Schaller, the City of New Rochelle has been consistently noted as one of
the top safest cities its size nationally; and

WHEREAS, First appointed to the New Rochelle Police Department in
August of 1974, Joseph Schaller quickly climbed the ranks to become
Sergeant in 1979, Lieutenant in 1982, Captain in 1988, Deputy Police
Commissioner in 2015, and Commissioner in 2018, the esteemed position
from which he will retire; and

WHEREAS, In his capacity as Police Commissioner, Joseph Schaller, a
true gentleman and extraordinary leader, served with loyalty, honor and
distinction, earning the admiration, esteem and affection of his
colleagues; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those
dedicated public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the
preservation of order and the protection of others are worthy and due
full praise for their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be
it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Police Commissioner Joseph Schaller upon the occasion of
his retirement from the New Rochelle Police Department, and to wish him
continued success in all his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Police Commissioner Joseph Schaller.
