COMMEMORATING the 100th Anniversary of the
American Council of Engineering Companies of New
York
WHEREAS, It is the prerogative of this Legislative Body to recognize
and commend worthy organizations whose mission encourages the overall
growth and prosperity of New York State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the American Council of Engineering
Companies of New York, to be celebrated at its Annual Meeting on
Thursday, August 12, 2021; and
WHEREAS, The American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) of New
York is a proactive coalition of nearly 300 firms representing every
discipline of engineering related to the built environment--civil,
structural, mechanical, electrical, environmental, geotechnical--and
affiliated companies; and
WHEREAS, ACEC New York member firms employ over 30,000 people
throughout New York State, and these firms promote diversity and
inclusion within their organizations; and
WHEREAS, ACEC New York is the voice of the engineering industry in
New York; and
WHEREAS, In 1921, the Metropolitan-based New York Association of
Consulting Engineers was formed in New York City; and
WHEREAS, In 1957, the Consulting Engineers Council of New York
State, Inc. (CEC/NYS) formed with seven regional chapters throughout New
York State; and
WHEREAS, In 2000, the Metropolitan-based NYACE and the CEC/NYS
merged to form a new statewide association, The American Council of
Engineering Companies of New York (ACEC New York), the second-largest
member organization in the National ACEC organization; and
WHEREAS, ACEC New York member firms are critical to life throughout
New York State, designing transportation, water/wastewater, energy, and
other systems and structures that account for more than $1 trillion of
investment worldwide; and
WHEREAS, ACEC New York is a highly focused group that advocates for
sustainable growth and investments that benefit New York State and the
Nation as a whole; and
WHEREAS, ACEC New York provides unique and crucial business
services, education and networking to the engineering industry
statewide; and
WHEREAS, The organization's yearly Engineering Excellence Awards
recognize exceptional projects designed by top professionals that
benefit communities worldwide and promote the consulting engineering
profession to the public; and
WHEREAS, The ACEC New York Scholarship Fund, which sponsors the
Awards, has given over $900,000 to benefit hundreds of New York State
engineering students, ensuring a strong future for engineering; and
WHEREAS, ACEC New York is proud to represent these exceptional firms
and professionals who make life as we know it possible; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals and organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate this milestone in the history of the American Council of
Engineering Companies of New York and to honor the importance of
engineering to the wellbeing of New York State; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the American Council of Engineering Companies of New
York.
