BILL NUMBER: S1317 SPONSOR: GAUGHRAN TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the real property tax law, in relation to volunteer firefighter and ambulance credits PURPOSE: To allow localities the option of extending the volunteer firefighter and ambulance credit to residents who serve in a neighboring munici- pality. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section one adds a new section 466-k to the real property tax law, as it applies to the volunteer firefighter and ambulance real property tax credit to provide localities with the option of adopting a local law allowing residents who serve in a neighboring municipality the ability to nonetheless, receive the tax credit that they would be entitled to

GAUGHRAN, HELMING, JACKSON, KAPLAN, KENNEDY, THOMAS -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Local Government AN ACT to amend the real property tax law, in relation to volunteer firefighter and ambulance credits THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The real property tax law is amended by adding a new section 466-k to read as follows: § 466-K. EXTENSION OF BENEFITS. ANY GOVERNING BODY OF A CITY, VILLAGE, TOWN, COUNTY, OR SCHOOL DISTRICT THAT HAS PROVIDED A REAL PROPERTY TAX CREDIT TO VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTERS AND VOLUNTEER AMBULANCE WORKERS SERVING THE MUNICIPALITY IN WHICH THEY RESIDE, NOTWITHSTANDING ANY PROVISION OF THIS TITLE TO THE CONTRARY, IS HEREBY AUTHORIZED TO EXTEND SUCH REAL PROPERTY TAX CREDIT TO ANY VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTER OR VOLUNTEER AMBULANCE WORKER WHO PROVIDES SUCH VOLUNTEER SERVICES TO A NEIGHBORING CITY, VILLAGE, TOWN, COUNTY, OR SCHOOL DISTRICT. § 2.
