BILL NUMBER: S6686 SPONSOR: BROUK TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend section 4 of part M of chapter 56 of the laws of 2012, amending the education law, relating to authorizing contracts for the provision of special education and related services for certain patients hospitalized in hospitals operated by the office of mental health, in relation to the effectiveness thereof PURPOSE: This bill would extend, until June 30, 2024, provisions of law that authorize a pilot program providing students residing in hospitals oper- ated by the Office of Mental Health with specialized educational programming that more closely aligns with the services they would receive in their local school districts. BROUK -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Education AN ACT to amend section 4 of part M of chapter 56 of the laws of 2012, amending the education law, relating to authorizing contracts for the provision of special education and related services for certain patients hospitalized in hospitals operated by the office of mental health, in relation to the effectiveness thereof THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 4 of part M of chapter 56 of the laws of 2012, amending the education law, relating to authorizing contracts for the provision of special education and related services for certain patients hospitalized in hospitals operated by the office of mental health, as amended by chapter 89 of the laws of 2018, is amended to read as follows: § 4. This act shall take effect July 1, 2012 and shall expire June 30, [2021] 2024, when upon such date the provisions of this act shall be deemed repealed. § 2. This act shall take effect immediately. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted. LBD11394-01-1
