COMMENDING Elejmal Temple No. 185 upon the
occasion of hosting its Potentate Ball from July
21-23, 2023

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare
of the community and its citizenry; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Elejmal Temple No. 185 upon the occasion of hosting its
Potentate Ball from July 21-23, 2023, at the Royal Regency Hotel in
Yonkers, New York; and

WHEREAS, The first Nobel to demit to Elejmal Temple was Nobel
William Seldon of Medina Temple No. 19, followed by Nobles Edward Woods
and Nathan Wilburn of Medina No. 19 and Noble Earkett T. Haggins of Abu
Bekr No. 91; and

WHEREAS, On August 12, 1974, Potentate Wilburn Gaither spoke with
D.T. Dorothy M. Johnson, The Imperial Deputy of the Desert of New York
about the forming of an Isis Club for Elejmal Temple; two days later, a
letter was received from D.T. Johnson, the Imperial Deputy, dated August
13, 1974 informing him of a meeting arranged with the Imperial
Commandress, D.T. Lucille I. Boyd, in convention city at the Daughters
Headquarters, the Benjamin Franklin Hotel for discussion on this matter;
and

WHEREAS, In January of 1974, with Past Matron Addie Gray No. 62 as
president, the Isis Club of Elejmal was formed; under Past Potentate Eli
J. Allen, the Daughters were created, the Temple dedicated and Elejmal
Court was placed under Dispensation on August 14, 1976, with 30 members
and Elejmal Court No. 171 was chartered; and

WHEREAS, Elejmal's Talent and Scholarship pageant has given the
Court and Temple a first-place winner who represented New York State at
their Annual Imperial Shrine Convention; they also had two second place
winners on the state level; and

WHEREAS, The Clown Unit under Noble Moody has five members, and the
Motor Patrol under the leadership of Noble Richard Upshaw has five
members; and

WHEREAS, The Marching Unit under the Command of Commander of
Display, Past Potentate Samuel Robinson and the various Presidents, has
received eight trophies from Imperial Council, co-winners Membership
Increase 1975-1976; Third Place Marching Unit, Longest Marching Unit,
Los Angeles, 1976; Third Place, Marching Unit, Kansas City, 1978; L.M.S.
Runner Up, 1979; First Place, Marching Unit, New York City, 1979;
Imperial Council Membership Increase by 10%, 1980; Third Place Marching

Unit, 1980; and First Place, New York States Association, I.B.P.O.E. of
White Plains, 1981; and

WHEREAS, The Elejmal Thundering Third Drum Corps, a group of
approximately 40 young girls and boys, ages six through 18 who were once
named the Yonder Challenger's; in 1974, they marched for the first time
under the Temple Banner in White Plains; today, this Drum Corps is
sponsored by Elejmal Temple; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
organizations and individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Elejmal Temple No. 185 upon the occasion of hosting its
Potentate Ball from July 21-23, 2023; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Elejmal Temple No. 185.
