CONGRATULATING Ava Bachta upon the occasion of
winning the NYSPHSAA Giant Slalom Championship on
February 26, 2024
WHEREAS, Individual and team championships are highly sought after
in high school sports; this Legislative Body commends rare athletic
achievements and pays special recognition to those who pursue such
excellence and become examples for the youth of this great Empire State;
and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition helps to enhance both the moral and
physical development of young athletes, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the importance of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, and developing a sense of fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate Ava
Bachta upon the occasion of winning the NYSPHSAA Giant Slalom
Championship; to the praise and applause of her excited fans, she
outperformed all of her competitors in a landmark victory to win the
Championship on Monday, February 26, 2024, at Whiteface Mountain in Lake
Placid, New York; and
WHEREAS, Family, friends, and the community at large loyally and
enthusiastically supported Ava Bachta throughout her journey as she
ended her season with the giant slalom championship title with a
combined race time of 1:52.31; and
WHEREAS, In a sport such as skiing, which demands athletic prowess,
speed, and agility, her Head Coach Dan Spigner worked hard to hone the
skills of this championship skier, teaching this outstanding athlete
lessons which will prove invaluable both on and off the slopes; and
WHEREAS, Truly dedicated to her sport, Ava Bachta skis seven days a
week while maintaining commendable academic standing; this student
athlete participates in honor classes and has been named to the high
honor roll each quarter of the school year; and
WHEREAS, Ava Bachta is a multi-sport athlete, participating in both
soccer and lacrosse in addition to skiing; she has been named a Times
Union Athlete of the Week twice during this winter school competition
season for her outstanding athletic performances; and
WHEREAS, A testament to her significant talent and skill, Ava Bachta
was selected to be a member of the New York State Alpine Team that
competed in the Eastern Championship at Attitash Mountain in March of
2024; and
WHEREAS, Ava Bachta is also the only U16 female in the Eastern
United States to be a recipient of the SYNC Athlete Fund, recognizing
potential future elite athletes; and
WHEREAS, Coach Dan Spigner and champion athlete Ava Bachta have
clearly utilized dedication, determination, and resilience in providing
a lasting contribution to the spirit of excellence which is a tradition
of this State and Nation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Ava Bachta of Shaker High School and Head Coach Dan Spigner
on their outstanding season; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Ava Bachta and Head Coach Dan Spigner.
