HONORING Amy G. Bass upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition by the Friends
of the Port Washington Public Library on May 11,
2023

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend those
illustrious organizations and individuals within the State of New York
whose focus and intent have made substantial impact on the quality of
life in their communities; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Amy G. Bass upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition
by the Friends of the Port Washington Public Library to be celebrated at
its 54th Richard Dodge Whittemore Annual Book and Author Luncheon on
Thursday, May 11, 2023, at the Garden City Hotel in Garden City, New
York; and

WHEREAS, The Friends of the Port Washington Public Library (FOL) is
dedicated to strengthening the ties between the library and community,
and to advancing the library's mission as a center for lifelong
learning, information, and culture; and

WHEREAS, Held each May, this year's Richard Dodge Whittemore Annual
Book and Author Luncheon is honoring Amy G. Bass, the FOL's first
Luncheon Honoree; and

WHEREAS, A Port Washingtonian since the age of three and graduate of
Schreiber High School, Amy G. Bass is a lifelong patron and devotee of
the FOL; and

WHEREAS, Having joined in 1988, Amy G. Bass is a long-serving
President of the FOL Board; her dedication and grace has transformed the
FOL into an indispensable partner to the library and one of Port
Washington's most well-respected organizations; and

WHEREAS, Amy G. Bass's commitment to the Port Washington community
is evidenced by her many leadership positions; her positions include
serving as President of the Board of Education for the Port Washington
School District, founding President and now President Emerita of the Ed
Foundation, board member of the League of Women Voters of Port
Washington-Manhasset and chair of its annual State of the Town Luncheon,
and 30-year board member of the Community Chest of Port Washington; and

WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to
Amy G. Bass, that future generations may know and appreciate their
admirable character, their many benevolent deeds, and the respect and
esteem in which they are held by their peers; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Amy G. Bass upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the Friends of the Port Washington Public Library on May
11, 2023; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Amy G. Bass; and the Friends of the Port Washington
Public Library (FOL).
