LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 25th Anniversary of the Steuben
County Office for the Aging

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor those
illustrious organizations of the State of New York whose purposeful
endeavors serve to enhance the quality of life for the cherished senior
citizens in their communities; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the 25th
Anniversary of the Steuben County Office for the Aging, celebrating 25
years of faithful service to the senior residents and their families;
and
WHEREAS, This significant milestone is an excellent opportunity to
recognize the special contributions of the Steuben County Office for the
Aging and the dedicated individuals who strive to better the quality of
life for senior citizens in the community; and
WHEREAS, Established in July of 1984, the mission of the Steuben Coun-
ty Office for the Aging is to enable persons age 60 and older to contin-
ue living independently in a safe environment by providing information
about available community resources, access and referral to appropriate
services, and advocacy as needed; and
WHEREAS, Designated by the State of New York to plan and coordinate
services to meet the needs of the county's older residents, the adminis-
trators, staff and volunteers at the Steuben County Office for the Aging
do this by working to improve access to services and by striving to
expand the range of services available for the more than 19,000 Steuben
County senior citizens and their caregivers; and
WHEREAS, Services currently being provided to the senior residents
include, but are not limited to: information and referral, transporta-
tion, income tax counseling, Ombudsman, flu shot clinics, outreach, home
delivered meals, the Caregiver Resource Center, Project CARE, legal and
congregate meal sites; and
WHEREAS, Additionally, the Expanded In-Home Services for the Elderly
Program meets housekeeping and personal care needs of the seniors; this
one service, in and of itself, helps the seniors maintain independent
living, which is the goal of almost all of the programs provided by the
Office for the Aging; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to recognize and
celebrate the legacy of New York's senior citizens who have experienced
tumultuous changes in the 20th Century, including the dawn of the nucle-
ar age, the rise of the computer, and the proliferation of the automo-
bile, television, technology and so many other innovations of the Ameri-
can spirit, and who now represent a great and willing source of
knowledge available to our great State of New York; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the Steuben County Office for the
Aging; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Steuben County Office for the Aging.
