LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Russ Friedman upon the occasion of
having the 2009 Crown Royal 400 named in his honor

WHEREAS, Members of the United States Armed Forces, who served so faith-
fully and courageously in wars in which our Nation's freedom was at
stake, as well as in the preservation of peace during peacetime, deserve
the highest commendation of this Legislative Body; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend
Russ Friedman upon the occasion of having the 2009 Crown Royal 400 named
in his honor; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Huntington Station, New York, Russ Friedman
served his country honorably and with distinction as a member of the
United States Marine Corps; and
WHEREAS, To commemorate his service and dedication to his country, the
2009 Crown Royal 400 at the Richmond International Speedway on May 2,
2009, will be renamed the Russ Friedman 400; and
WHEREAS, A proud veteran and two-time recipient of the Purple Heart,
Russ Friedman is dedicating the race that bears his name to all of the
dedicated men and women who serve their country with bravery and
distinction; and
WHEREAS, The dedication and sacrifices of our military personnel
ensure our continued role as a Nation which embodies the ideals of
democracy, and is a defender of liberty for peoples throughout the
world; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is very pleased to join with Russ
Friedman and the Richmond International Speedway to express its grati-
tude to the men and women of the United States Armed Forces for their
tremendous sacrifices made for our Nation and for the benefit of all
Americans; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Russ Friedman upon the occasion of having the 2009 Crown Royal
400 named in his honor; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Russ Friedman.
