LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Lillian Isabelle Butler upon the
occasion of her 100th Birthday

WHEREAS, Truly an extraordinary person who has led an exemplary life of
humanitarian service, Lillian Butler is defined by simple modesty and a
boundless energy that is amazing and inspiring; and
WHEREAS, Born on June 23, 1909, in Brooklyn, New York, Lillian Butler
graduated from Bay Ridge Girls High School in 1927 and then Hefly's
Business School; she later worked as a secretary for the National City
Company where she met and married the late Jack Butler; and
WHEREAS, Lillian Butler was a stay-at-home mom who enjoyed being with
her children; she went back to work as a secretary in the Valley Stream
Central School library and worked there until she retired in 1974; and
WHEREAS, Upon the death of her husband, Lillian Butler became a resi-
dent of Berne living with her daughter, Jeannette and her family; and
WHEREAS, A strong advocate of education, Lillian Butler donated books
from her high school library and gave them to the Town of Berne's
Library in order for the Town to become eligible for a library grant;
and
WHEREAS, Lillian Butler has traveled on all continents except Antarc-
tica; she is also a lover of ballroom dancing, musicals, and the opera;
and
WHEREAS, This distinguished woman, who has experienced the incredible
joys and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the
stamina and courage to savor a full life, has inspired the lives of her
many friends and family; and
WHEREAS, This beloved lady has enriched the lives of those around her
through her joyous and sincere love for others and through the quiescent
charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her children, Jeannette and
John, her grandchildren, Kathleen, Karen and Terence, as well as her
great-grandchildren, Allen, Elias, Mollie, Irene, Nicholas, Rachel, and
Bryce, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of her life and rejoice
in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have witnessed
and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and awesome
achievements of this country during the last century, while themselves
contributing to the growth and excellence of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Lillian Isabelle Butler upon the occasion of her 100th
Birthday; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Lillian Isabelle Butler.
