LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Steve Walfish upon the occasion of
receiving the Marilyn Stagg Award on Sunday, May 3, 2009
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those individ-
uals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the community and its
citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Steve Walfish upon the occasion of receiving the Marilyn Stagg Award on
Sunday, May 3, 2009, at the Westchester Hills Golf Club, White Plains,
New York; and
WHEREAS, The Marilyn Stagg Award is named after an extraordinary woman
whose significant contributions left a lasting mark on the White Plains
community; each year, this commendation is bestowed upon an individual
who dedicates him or herself to the community and serves as a living
testament to the memory and service of Marilyn Stagg; and
WHEREAS, Steve Walfish is a man of singular distinction who has
continually demonstrated extreme competence, exceptional intelligence
and diligent leadership in his unwavering service to his community and
consequently has been designated for this most prestigious award; and
WHEREAS, A district leader for the past 15 years, Steve Walfish has
walked Election District 6 in support of candidates, baked for poll
workers at the Middle School and kept the hamburgers cooking at BBQ's;
and
WHEREAS, Born in Brooklyn, Steve Walfish finished public education in
Dade County, Florida; he then moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where
he earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, a Master's degree in Educa-
tion and a Specialist Certificate in Educational Research; upon complet-
ing his studies he joined Miami Dade Community College's faculty; and
WHEREAS, After five years, Steve Walfish decided to move north to
pursue a career in market research; this took him to Heublein located in
Hartford and its Kentucky Fried Chicken, Smirnoff and A-1 Steak Sauce
businesses; he was then recruited by General Foods and relocated to
White Plains, New York, in 1983; and
WHEREAS, A pillar of the community, Steve Walfish is a regular member
at the Thursday morning Bible commentary class at Bet Am Shalom Syna-
gogue, and an active member of the Jewish War Veterans White Plains Post
191, where he has served as their Junior Vice-Commander for the past
four years; he is also a dedicated member of the White Plains American
Legion post; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Steve Walfish has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Steve Walfish has displayed through-
out his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Steve Walfish upon the occasion of receiving the Marilyn Stagg
Award on Sunday, May 3, 2009; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Steve Walfish.
