LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 50th Anniversary of Sanford H.
Calhoun High School in Merrick, New York

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those schools of commitment and high achievement whose purpose
and endeavors have been dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in the
education of the youth of this noble Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 50th Anniversary of Sanford H. Calhoun High School in Merrick,
New York; and
WHEREAS, To celebrate this auspicious event, the first Sanford H.
Calhoun High School Hall of Fame will be established; the former alumni
and faculty who will be inducted are: Robert Bury, teacher/coach; Ben
Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, the founders of Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream,
Class of 1969; Matt Cordaro, Class of 1961; Tim Davey, Class of 1969; Ed
Grilli, Class of 1970; Tal Thayer, teacher/music; and John Uberti, Class
of 1979; and
WHEREAS, An integral part of the history of its community, Sanford H.
Calhoun High School represents a dynamic, responsive and positive force
within the educational system of New York State; and
WHEREAS, The outstanding administration at Sanford H. Calhoun High
School has fostered a learning environment which promotes the maximum
growth of every student, enabling each student to develop the vital
skills necessary to succeed throughout their lives; and
WHEREAS, The steadfast and unyielding commitment of parents, educators
and administrators to provide the highest quality education for students
has become the hallmark and tradition at Sanford H. Calhoun High School;
and,
WHEREAS, Within the 21st Century, Sanford H. Calhoun High School
stands prepared to reach out, in earnest and enthusiastic quest of its
mission, to promote the maximum growth of every student, establishing
standards and building skills which will carry its students and the
citizens of its community into the future; and
WHEREAS, Proudly aware of its distinguished past and eager to fulfill
its present commitment to parents, students and the community, Sanford
H. Calhoun High School is planning with vision and purpose for the ebb
and swell of growth and change it will encounter in the years to come;
and
WHEREAS, It is only fitting that this Legislative Body extend its
highest commendation to the administration, teachers, staff and parents,
both past and present, of Sanford H. Calhoun High School for their dedi-
cation and commitment to the children, school and community in the
creation of a better world for the children of tomorrow; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Sanford H. Calhoun High School in
Merrick, New York, fully confident that it will continue to enjoy the
sparkling success which has so characterized its past; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to David Seinfeld, Principal of Sanford H. Calhoun High School.
