LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Michael Castro upon the occasion of
receiving the Extra Mile Award from To Life! at its 11th Annual Gala on
May 5, 2009

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dr.
Michael Castro upon the occasion of receiving the Extra Mile Award from
To Life! at its 11th Annual Gala on May 5, 2009; and
WHEREAS, The Medical Director of the Cancer Medicine Center at St.
Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam, New York, Dr. Michael Castro is a New York
State Board Certified Medical Oncologist who has been giving quality
care to his patients for over 18 years; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Michael Castro completed his residency at St. Luke's
Hospital and a Fellowship in Neoplastic Diseases at the Darrell Rutten-
berg Cancer Center at Mt. Sinai Medical Center, both in New York City;
and
WHEREAS, After completing his post-graduate studies with the Bioche-
motherapy of Melanoma and Renal Cell Carcinoma Center in Houston, Texas,
Dr. Michael Castro spent many years practicing at the C.R. Wood Center
at Glens Falls Hospital; and
WHEREAS, Well-known for his compassion and passion for treating his
patients, Dr. Michael Castro is a huge asset to the community and is
dedicated to the continuous search for the cure of cancer; and
WHEREAS, With Dr. Michael Castro throughout have been his wife,
Sophie, who feels privileged to be a part of his life and rejoices in
his many achievements; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 1998, To Life! is a non-profit organization
providing free-of-charge breast cancer education and support services in
a 10-county region, including and surrounding Albany County; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is pleased to have this opportunity to
express its highest admiration for Dr. Michael Castro and to wish him
continued success in all of his future endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Michael Castro upon the occasion of receiving the Extra Mile
Award from To Life! at its 11th Annual Gala on May 5, 2009; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Michael Castro.
