LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Greater Glens Falls Senior Citi-
zens Center, Inc. upon the occasion of its 50th Anniversary

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor those
illustrious organizations of the State of New York whose purposeful
endeavors serve to enhance the quality of life for the cherished senior
citizens in their communities; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend the Greater
Glens Falls Senior Citizens Center, Inc. upon the occasion of its 50th
Anniversary; and
WHEREAS, The Greater Glens Falls Senior Citizens Center, Inc. will
celebrate this most auspicious occasion with a multitude of events
including: a Theme Basket Raffle Party on April 15, 2009, an Anniversary
Open-House at the Sherman House on May 3, 2009, and an Anniversary
Luncheon on May 27, 2009, at the Queensbury Hotel; and
WHEREAS, For the past 50 years, the Greater Glens Falls Senior Citi-
zens Center, Inc. has strived to improve the quality of life of those 55
and older in the Greater Glens Falls area by offering a wide range of
educational, health and recreational activities and services both at the
Center and in the community; and
WHEREAS, The Center's building, which is generously supplied by the
First Presbyterian Church of Glens Falls, is centrally located, hand-
icapped accessible and open five days a week; and
WHEREAS, The programs offered by the Greater Glens Falls Senior Citi-
zens Center, Inc. are implemented by a professional staff that treats
all participants with unwavering dignity, respect and warmth; and
WHEREAS, Helping to keep all seniors abreast of the Center's activ-
ities, a monthly newsletter is provided to members who may also visit
the City of Glens Falls website; in addition, a weekly calendar is
published in the POST STAR; and
WHEREAS, Always seeking to meet the needs of the more frail and
isolated elderly in the community, the Greater Glens Falls Senior Citi-
zens Center, Inc. works with over 80 agencies and numerous companies
creating a collaborative effort that best serves all seniors; and
WHEREAS, The goal of the Greater Glens Falls Senior Citizens Center,
Inc. is to keep seniors happy and active with over 1,000 members from
the Tri-County area; some of the activities and services offered by the
Center include: transportation, tax assistance, defensive driving cours-
es, bowling and golf leagues, trips, picnics, cards, bingo and many
others; and
WHEREAS, Some of the health programs entail strength training classes,
Blood Sugar, Blood Pressure, Hearing and Vision Screenings, as well as
Medication Education, Walking Club and various other monthly programs;
the Center also offers "On My Own Time" Arts Contest, Museum Tours,
Craft Groups, Woodshop, Writing and Computer Classes and much more; and
WHEREAS, The success of the Greater Glens Falls Senior Citizens
Center, Inc. can be attributed to the hardworking staff, administrators,
and volunteers who have done so much to provide social, physical, and
spiritual well-being to senior citizens; and
WHEREAS, This significant milestone is an excellent opportunity to
recognize the special contributions of the Greater Glens Falls Senior
Citizens Center, Inc. and the dedicated individuals who strive to better
the quality of life for senior citizens in the community; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals and organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Greater Glens Falls Senior Citizens Center, Inc. upon the
occasion of its 50th Anniversary, fully confident that in its future, it
will enjoy the same success which has so characterized its past; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Greater Glens Falls Senior Citizens Center, Inc.
