LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 30th Anniversary of the Albany
Roundtable to be celebrated on May 28, 2009

WHEREAS, Residents of the City of Albany, New York, are celebrating the
30th Anniversary of the Albany Roundtable civic lunch series, an organ-
ization comprised of a special group of people who gather for the
exchange of ideas with representatives of the arts, historic preserva-
tion, government, business and financial worlds; and
WHEREAS, The Albany Roundtable was founded in the fall of 1979 by a
group of Albany citizens interested in furthering the renaissance taking
place in the City of Albany; and
WHEREAS, The Albany Roundtable is a non-profit civic lunch forum that
presents speakers with diverse viewpoints on timely subjects relating to
the Albany region; and
WHEREAS, Its mission is to enrich the civic life of the community by
fostering the exchange of ideas and information among people active in
business, art, not-for-profits, governments, neighborhoods, and other
urban activities; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the 30th
Anniversary of the Albany Roundtable and to congratulate its members for
their contributions as a link and common ground for leaders and active
people in the business, cultural, educational and governmental sectors
of the Albany community; and
WHEREAS, To celebrate this auspicious event, the Albany Roundtable
will host a reception on Thursday, May 28, 2009, at the University Club
of Albany, featuring Jaime Correa as the Visiting Speaker; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished individual is a planner, architect, and
professor at the University of Miami, and a respected authority in the
fields of architecture, town design, and sustainable development; Jaime
Correa is the author of SEVEN RECIPES FOR THE NEW URBANISM, and
SELF-SUFFICIENT URBANISM: A VISION OF CONTRACTION FOR THE NON-DISTANT
FUTURE; and
WHEREAS, The Albany Roundtable's founding President, Paul M. Bray, an
Albany attorney and architecture, urban planning and history buff, envi-
sioned Albany having an open to the public civic lunch forum for the
cross section of city residents and others interested in improving the
historic city center and the overall quality of city living in Albany,
to lunch together and have the opportunity to meet and hear leaders talk
about city-related issues; and
WHEREAS, The Albany Roundtable has provided the public a first hand
opportunity to see the unfolding of many changes and improvements in
Albany, including the new Albany International Airport and the preserva-
tion of Union Station; speakers at the luncheons and special forums have
ranged from former Governor Mario Cuomo to community leaders, and every
January the Mayor of Albany delivers a state-of-the-city address; and
WHEREAS, Encouraging an active and widely participatory civic life has
been the primary goal of the Albany Roundtable; it has proven itself by
providing for almost a quarter century, a link and common ground for
leaders and active people in the historic and still vitally active City
of Albany; and
WHEREAS, From time to time the Albany Roundtable has sponsored work-
shops and forums on subjects like Gender Space, regional transportation,
and living downtown; and
WHEREAS, The Albany Roundtable Civic Lunch Forum has unerringly main-
tained and expanded its focus of purpose, bringing together the forces
and resources of the community to serve the citizenry; now, therefore,
be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 30th Anniversary of the Albany Roundtable to be cele-
brated on May 28, 2009; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Albany Roundtable.
