LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dinah Howland upon the occasion of
receiving the Gold Spirit Award from the Rye YMCA on May 27, 2009

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and character
who have inspired and brought pride to our majestic Empire State with
their strong contributions to the community and model citizenship; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Dinah Howland upon the occasion of receiving the Gold Spirit Award from
the Rye YMCA, at its Annual Dinner on May 27, 2009; and
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Dinah Howland has given not only of her time and energies but
also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for this special honor, the highest award for volunteer
service to the Rye YMCA, which is chosen by a committee of past recipi-
ents; and
WHEREAS, A Board Member of the Rye YMCA from 2001 to 2009, as well as
a member of its Executive Committee, Dinah Howland chaired the 2004-2009
Strategic Plan and served on the Strategic Plan Committee for 2009-2013;
and
WHEREAS, In addition, Dinah Howland is the past Chair of the Program
Committee and is currently the Chair of the Activate America Coalition
and a member of the Board Development Committee; and
WHEREAS, Dinah Howland also gives back to the community she loves so
much by serving as President of 15th Twig -- Twig Antiques Shop, a
member of the board of the Carver Center and a Troop leader for the
local Girl Scouts; and
WHEREAS, An International Banking Analyst for Wells Fargo Bank, Dinah
Howland served as a consultant for Bain & Co. when it started its German
office in Munich and a consultant for McKinsey & Co., specializing in
health care/pharmaceuticals; and
WHEREAS, Dinah Howland received a Bachelor of Arts degree in German
and a Master of Science degree in Mathematics from the University of New
Mexico, a Master of Arts degree in German Literature from Stanford
University and a Master's degree in Business Administration from Harvard
Business School; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is pleased to have this opportunity to
express its highest admiration for Dinah Howland and to wish her contin-
ued success in all of her future endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dinah Howland upon the occasion of receiving the Gold Spirit Award
from the Rye YMCA on May 27, 2009; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dinah Howland.
