LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Michael Savoia upon the occasion
of his selection as the WARWICK VALLEY DISPATCH Student-Athlete of the
Week

WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be achieved
only through strenuous practice and team spirit, nurtured by dedicated
coaching and strategic planning; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those young people within the State of New York who have
inspired and brought pride to their school and community by achieving
outstanding success in athletic competition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Michael Savoia upon the occasion of his selection as the WARWICK
VALLEY DISPATCH Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending May 6,
2009; and
WHEREAS, A senior golfing standout at Warwick Valley High School,
Michael Savoia has been an important part of the team's 9-1 start; one
of the top scorers on the team, his best round of 36 for nine holes
helped lead the team to four consecutive victories; and
WHEREAS, Michael Savoia carries a 95.1 grade point average and is a
member of the National Honor Society and the basketball team at Warwick
Valley High School, as well as a Boy Scout; and
WHEREAS, A young man of singular distinction and superlative ability,
Michael Savoia has established a high standard of academic excellence
and purposefulness of life rarely achieved in youthful years; and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, Micha-
el Savoia now stands honorably, with just pride in his accomplishments
and in eager anticipation of future challenges, understanding and appre-
ciating the caring counsel and support provided by his teachers, coaches
and parents; and
WHEREAS, With Michael Savoia throughout have been his parents, Michael
and Rosemarie Savoia, and sister, Stephanie, all of whom feel privileged
to be a part of his life and rejoice in his many achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when young
people of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Michael Savoia upon the occasion of his selection as the
WARWICK VALLEY DISPATCH Student-Athlete of the Week and to extend to him
its best wishes for a future of purposeful success and well-being, fully
confident of his response to a promising future and appreciative of the
model he represents for all aspiring young people of the Empire State;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Michael Savoia.
