LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Dr. Susan Scrimshaw, Ph.D., upon the
occasion of her designation for special recognition by Upper Hudson
Planned Parenthood on May 20, 2009

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge those exemplary individuals whose purposeful lives
and distinguished careers have been committed to bettering the quality
of life in this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Dr. Susan Scrimshaw, Ph.D., upon the occasion of her designation for
special recognition by Upper Hudson Planned Parenthood at its Annual
Meeting and Recognition Reception to be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2009,
at the Opalka Gallery on the Albany Sage Campus, Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Susan Scrimshaw has given not only of her time and ener-
gies but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and conse-
quently has been designated for this special honor; and
WHEREAS, The President of Sage Colleges, Dr. Susan Scrimshaw is a
graduate of Barnard College and obtained her Master's and her Ph.D. in
anthropology from Columbia University; and
WHEREAS, Prior to Sage College, Dr. Susan Scrimshaw served for 12
years as the dean of the School of Public Health at the University of
Illinois at Chicago and was the associate dean of public health at UCLA;
and
WHEREAS, Despite her busy professional life, Dr. Susan Scrimshaw has
been called upon to contribute her time and talents to countless civic
and charitable endeavors and has always given of herself unstintingly;
and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Dr. Susan Scrimshaw has stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Dr. Susan Scrimshaw, Ph.D., upon the occasion of her designation
for special recognition by Upper Hudson Planned Parenthood on May 20,
2009; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Susan Scrimshaw, Ph.D.
