LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 13th Anniversary of The Friends
United Block Association on Sunday, June 7, 2009

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, Individuals and organizations devoted to improving the quali-
ty of life for others, enabling them to build lives of dignity and self-
worth are deserving of the highest praise and recognition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the sense of this Legislative Body to commem-
orate the 13th Anniversary of The Friends United Block Association to be
celebrated on Sunday, June 7, 2009, at Glen Terrace, in Brooklyn, New
York; and
WHEREAS, In conjunction with this Anniversary celebration, The Friends
United Block Association (FUBA) will also use the evening as a fundrais-
er by issuing a Souvenir Journal to benefit its Youth Program; and
WHEREAS, FUBA's Youth Program, which includes scholarship and educa-
tional assistance, cultural enhancement, technological enhancement and
leadership enhancement, will create a positive and nurturing environment
for children of the Canarsie community between the ages of 8 through 18;
and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community certainly warrant
special recognition; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 13th Anniversary of The Friends United Block Association
on Sunday, June 7, 2009; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Gardy Brazela, President, The Friends United Block Associ-
ation.
