LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Frank Wessels, distin-
guished citizen and devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Frank Wessels of Norwich, New York died on Saturday, December
13, 2008, at the age of 73; and
WHEREAS, Frank Wessels distinguished himself in his profession and by
his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of
his community; and
WHEREAS, Frank Wessels' commitment to excellence, and his spirit of
humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including charita-
ble and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, Born in Oxford, Frank Wessels grew up in Guilford where he
graduated high school in 1952; during that time, he worked for his moth-
er, who owned and operated the Red and White store in Guilford; and
WHEREAS, Early in his career, Frank Wessels was employed for short
times by Bendix of Sidney and the National Bank and Trust Company, prior
to beginning his 30-plus years with the Norwich Pharmacal Company and
its successors; he worked in the research and development area as a
research scientist, retiring from Procter & Gamble in 1989 as a project
manager; and
WHEREAS, During his time with Procter & Gamble, Frank Wessels under-
took studies with the Empire State College which combined science, math-
ematics and technology, and graduated with a BS degree in August of
1979; and
WHEREAS, A dedicated family man, Frank Wessels devoted many hours to
family genealogy, researching his family's roots back to the 1600s; he
was a former member of the Norwich Elks Lodge BPOE 1222, served in the
New York State National Guard and was an assessor for the Town of North
Norwich from 1972-1976; and
WHEREAS, Frank Wessels served as committee person for the Town of
North Norwich and City of Norwich Ward 5 and was chairman of the Norwich
City Committee for several years; he remained active with the Procter &
Gamble Quarter Century Club and volunteered at the Norwich Eaton museum;
and
WHEREAS, Frank Wessels is survived by his wife, Myrna, his children,
Vicki, Joni, Thomas, and Brian, his seven grandchildren, Kimberly,
Gregory, Anna, Madeline, Grant, Seth and Trent, as well as numerous
other family members; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Frank Wessels, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Frank Wessels.
