LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the Onondaga Community College
Men's Lacrosse Team and Coach Chuck Wilbur upon the occasion of captur-
ing the 2009 NJCAA National Championship

WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be achieved
only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit, nurtured by
dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this state, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play, teamwork, and competition; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those young people within the State of New York who, achiev-
ing outstanding success in athletic competition, have inspired and
brought pride to their college; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate the
Onondaga Community College Men's Lacrosse Team and Head Coach Chuck
Wilbur upon the occasion of capturing the 2009 NJCAA National Champion-
ship; and
WHEREAS, To bring home a national title, as did the 2009 OCC Lazers,
is a remarkable achievement; furthermore, to bring home three national
titles in the past four years, as has been done by the OCC Men's
Lacrosse Team, is truly an outstanding accomplishment; and
WHEREAS, In addition to its success in capturing a national champion-
ship title, the Lazers defeated Nassau Community College by a score of 9
- 8 in the championship game, giving the team a perfect season (16-0);
this year, OCC also won its 5th consecutive NJCAA Region Ill Champion-
ship and its 9th consecutive Mid-State Athletic Conference title; and
WHEREAS, No team, no matter how gifted one or a handful of its members
may be, can succeed without outstanding talent throughout its entire
roster; such was the case for the 2009 OCC Lazers whose players
included: Bob Schnibbe, Emmett Printup, Spencer Taugher, Jeremy Thomp-
son, Connor Murphy, Pete Mumford, Ed Prevost, Corey Nowak, Aaron Cahill,
Ryan Leach, Rudi George, Jon Bissell, Rashad Cureton, John Diaz, Vinnie
Alexander, Elijah Printup, Brian Dowdle, D.J. O'Connell, Jon Fiorillo,
Shaun Church, Jerome Thompson, Desi Gonzales, Spencer Lyons, Corey Rich,
Mark Burnett, Dom Scalzo, Zach Fazio, Bennett Dee, Shayne Jackson, Zach
Chawgo, Tim Hearne, Eric Miccio, Lanny Ellis, Grant Roehr, Adam Traynor,
Kyle Merrill, Russell Longboat, Owen Alberts, Brad Romancik, Ben Thomas,
Greg Geiss, Dave Williams, and Jason Ohnsman; and
WHEREAS, The success of the OCC Men's Champion Lacrosse team is due in
great part to the efforts of Head Coach Chuck Wilbur and his outstanding
Assistant Coaches who include Mike Villano, Joe Villano, Chris Brim and
Nick Gatto; the team was also assisted by the never-ending encouragement
and support of friends, family and the entire OCC College Athletic
Department, as well as the Central New York community; and
WHEREAS, While lacrosse is a team sport, national recognition of some
Lazer team members must be noted: named NJCAA 1st Team All-Americans for
2009 were: attackman Jerome Thompson, midfielders Jeremy Thompson and Ed
Prevost, defenseman Pete Mumford, and goalie Jon Fiorillo; and
WHEREAS, Attackman Dom Scalzo and defenseman Bob Schnibbe were named
2nd Team All-Americans; in addition, all 7 of the All-American
selections, along with midfielder Corey Rich, were also named to the
Region III All-Region 1st Team, with Jerome Thompson and Pete Mumford
being named Region III Attackman of the Year and Defenseman of the Year
respectively; Midfielder Elijah Printup was named to the All-Region 2nd

Team, and Onondaga head coach Chuck Wilbur was named the Region III
Coach of the Year; and
WHEREAS, The 2009 Lazers shared noteworthy attributes off the field as
well as in competition; individually and collectively, they constantly
exhibited good sportsmanship and scholarship, thereby demonstrating to
themselves and to others that they have an enviable combination of
talent and character which reflects favorably upon their school and
their community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Onondaga Community College Men's Lacrosse Team and Head
Coach Chuck Wilbur on their most successful season and overall team
record, and the capture of the 2009 NJCAA National Championship; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the members of the 2009 Onondaga Community College Men's
Lacrosse Team and its coaches.
