LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Ollie B. Ross upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition by the Prayer Band

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Ollie B. Ross has given not only of her time and energies but
also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Ollie B. Ross
upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition by the
Prayer Band, to be celebrated at its 31st Anniversary Luncheon on Satur-
day, September 19, 2009, in Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, Along with two other members, Ollie Ross is being honored as
the oldest and last of the original members of the Prayer Band; and
WHEREAS, Born in Alabama, Ollie Ross was married to the late Alphonse
Ross for 54 years; a born again Christian and member of The Saint Paul
Community Baptist Church for 30 years, Ollie Ross serves as prayer
intercessor to Pastor Dr. Johnny R. Youngblood; and
WHEREAS, A member of the Council of Wise Jewels, Ollie Ross has served
as president of The Lindsay Park Prayer for 31 years; she is affiliated
with Women United in Prayer, Assistant to the Pastor of First Choice
Outreach Ministry, Inc., and Gospel Prison Ministries, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, Ollie Ross returned to school at the age of 75 and received
her Associate and Bachelor's degrees in Biblical Theology from the North
Carolina College of Theology; her goal is to pursue a Master's degree in
Pastoral Counseling and Advanced Biblical Studies; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Ollie Ross has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her children, Anthony and
Belinda, and her grandchild, Sojourner Arthur, all of whom feel privi-
leged to be a part of her life and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Ollie Ross has displayed throughout
her life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Ollie B. Ross upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the Prayer Band; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Ollie B. Ross.
