LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending A. Scott Horak upon the occasion of
his designation for special honor by Long Beach Hospital on October 17,
2009

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and character
who have inspired and brought pride to our majestic Empire State with
their strong contributions to the community and model citizenship; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend A.
Scott Horak upon the occasion of his designation for special honor by
Long Beach Hospital on October 17, 2009; and
WHEREAS, Born and raised in Far Rockaway, Queens, A. Scott Horak
attended Beach Channel High School and worked on the beach as a life-
guard for 12 years, five as an acting Lieutenant; during the winter
months, he worked as a carpenter and joined the New York City District
Council as an apprentice when he was 17; and
WHEREAS, In 1983, A. Scott Horak and his partner, Ralph Richardson,
founded the R&J Construction Corporation, which specializes in drywall,
carpentry and acoustical ceilings and has completed high-rise
construction in the five boroughs and Long Island; and
WHEREAS, In addition to serving as Vice President of the R&J
Construction Corporation, A. Scott Horak is a partner in GTO Develop-
ment, a California based development company, and has been involved in
projects in Florida and Georgia; and
WHEREAS, A true citizen of Long Beach, New York, A. Scott Horak
believes in giving back to the community he loves so much; he proudly
supports the Annual Long Beach Junior Lifeguards Tournament, which high-
lights the key teachings of a vital program that helps in the develop-
ment of future lifeguards; and
WHEREAS, A. Scott Horak is also involved in the fight against ALS,
often referred to as Lou Gehrig's disease; he joined the committee of
the Muscular Dystrophy Association's Wings over Wall Street in 2001 and
received the Humanitarian Award in 2005; and
WHEREAS, With A. Scott Horak throughout have been his four children,
Lauren, Catherine, Arthur and Skylar, all of whom feel privileged to be
a part of his life and rejoice in his many achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend A. Scott Horak upon the occasion of his designation for special
honor by Long Beach Hospital on October 17, 2009, and wish him continued
success in all of his future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to A. Scott Horak.
